Tsinghua High School teachers gave interdisciplinary keynote speeches at the China STEM Education Development Conference

November 3rd - 5th,The China STEM Education Development Conference with the theme of "Doing a good job in science education and paving the way for innovation" was held in Changchun, Jilin Province,The conference was hosted by Curriculum Materials Research and Development Center of China National Institute of Education Sciences, Basic Industry Training Center of Tsinghua University, School of Design and Creativity of Tongji University, and Institute of Automation of Chinese Academy of Sciences,Jilin Academy of Education, Changchun Education Bureau, Automobile Economic and Technological Development Zone Education Bureau。

Shen Dashan, a teacher from the High School Affiliated to Tsinghua University, as a representative of front-line expert teachers with years of experience in STEM curriculum development and practice, was invited to give a keynote speech on the theme of "The Value and Embodiment of Effective Application of Subject Knowledge in STEM"。

Mr. Shen Dashan summarized five points of view on the effective use of subject knowledge in STEM teaching: the intuitive value of STEM interdisciplinary learning,Should promote the understanding of the subject concept;Integration of STEM education and disciplines,Should cut into the core knowledge of the subject,Embodies the important thought of the discipline;The ideal STEM project selection can be considered as an organic connection with the teaching progress of the subject;Effective STEM education truly enables students to apply their knowledge to solve real problems;STEM programs that target the use of subject knowledge can significantly increase the acceptance of STEM education。

Through a number of classic teaching cases and project practice, Mr. Shen Dashan highlighted the important role of knowledge application in STEM courses and projects, provided an effective demonstration for interdisciplinary project-based teaching, and won unanimous praise from the audience。At the same time, the conference was broadcast live online for the whole country, and the advanced research laboratory and scientific and technological innovation talent training mode of Tsinghua Affiliated High School once again received wide attention and recognition。

The conference released the "China STEM Education 2029 Action Plan" series, and Mr. Shen, as the main writer of the "STEM and Engineering Thinking" branch, also shared the relevant content。The conference also solicited STEM excellent course cases nationwide, and the top 20 excellent cases were defended at the conference site. Mr. Shen, as one of the expert judges of the judging group, participated in the activity。
